UK appoints Seymour as deputy high commissioner to Nigeria

Vicky Seymour has officially assumed her duties as the new Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, marking a reinforcement of the United Kingdom's commitment to its partnership with Africa's largest economy. Seymour's appointment, announced by the British High Commission in Abuja, follows the conclusion of Gill Lever OBE's diplomatic posting in June 2026.

With more than two decades of experience in diplomacy, international development, and public service, Seymour brings a wealth of expertise to her new role. Prior to this appointment, she served as Head of the East Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) since 2023. Her extensive career includes leadership positions in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Mozambique, as well as postings in Afghanistan. Her background spans critical areas like climate, security, and economic development, complemented by earlier work in the non-profit sector focusing on migration.

The British High Commission highlighted that Seymour will play a pivotal role in advancing the UK's engagement with Nigeria. Key areas of focus will include promoting economic growth, enhancing security cooperation, managing migration, fostering international collaboration, and deepening development partnerships, all while promoting stronger people-to-people ties.
