UK government condemns protest near Dover

Masked protesters blocked roads leading to the busy ferry port in Dover, disrupting traffic on Britain’s southeast coast. The demonstration, reportedly linked to illegal migration, created more than six kilometers of queues.

The British government said the right to peaceful protest is fundamental, but argued that the Dover action went beyond what could be considered peaceful. “We condemn the behavior in Dover and the travel disruption it has caused,” the government said, according to the Associated Press.

Britain’s equivalent of the road authority reported that the blocked roads caused the delays. Travelers who missed a departure were offered another one.
