The Observer newspaper reported that Starmer was expected to step down and outline a departure timetable, though a government source insisted he remained focused on governing.

The threat to Starmer's leadership intensified Friday when rival Andy Burnham secured a parliamentary seat, enabling a formal leadership challenge. Starmer, who led Labour to a significant election win in 2024, has seen his popularity decline due to scandals and policy shifts, leaving many voters feeling he has not delivered promised improvements to their living standards.
