UK temperatures forecast to exceed 30C as another heatwave imminent

Parts of the United Kingdom are bracing for a significant heatwave, with temperatures predicted to climb above 30C from this weekend. Forecasters anticipate highs of up to 33C in southern and south-eastern England, while areas as far north as South Yorkshire could see 30C. This marks the third heatwave of the year for some regions.

The current hot spell, driven by high pressure building from the Azores, is expected to peak from Monday and could persist into the middle of July. While not anticipated to be as intense as the record-breaking heatwave in late June, its duration is expected to be considerably longer. Cooler conditions are forecast for western parts of the UK due to an Atlantic breeze, limiting temperatures to the low to mid-20s.

The UK Health Security Agency has issued yellow heat health alerts for several regions, including the East Midlands, West Midlands, East of England, London, South East England, and South West England. These alerts, effective from Saturday noon until Saturday, July 11, 20:00 BST, highlight an increased risk to health, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions. A heatwave is officially defined in the UK as a period of at least three consecutive days where daily maximum temperatures meet or exceed specific regional thresholds, typically around 25C or 28C in London.
