UK, Ukraine Leaders Meet on Carrier; Zelenskyy Warns of Russian Mobilization

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy aboard the HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier, using the meeting for his first diplomatic engagement since taking office. Sunak reaffirmed Britain's steadfast commitment to supporting Ukraine. During the meeting, Zelenskyy shared intelligence suggesting Russia could mobilize an additional 300,000 to 500,000 troops by late September or early October. He asserted that Russian President Vladimir Putin has no intention of stopping the war, predicting significant casualties as untrained soldiers are sent to the front lines. Zelenskyy also reiterated concerns about potential military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, Iran, and China, claiming North Korea might send 30,000 soldiers and Iran could supply missiles. He previously stated that Russia was preparing to house North Korean troops in the Voronezh region of Russia starting in June. Sunak emphasized that his meeting with Zelenskyy was intentional, sending a clear message of Britain's continued support. He pledged that Britain would fully honor all its commitments to Ukraine, despite recent political instability that saw four prime ministers in four years. Britain has already committed 25 billion pounds in funding since 2022. Furthermore, Sunak announced Britain would share intellectual property rights for its new 'Stonegaze' electronic warfare system. This tablet-sized device can jam enemy radar and drones. Britain has already supplied thousands of these units to Ukraine, and sharing the technology will enable Ukraine to mass-produce them domestically. Sunak stated this technology would help Ukraine strike targets and save lives, with potential future applications in British long-range weaponry.
