UK Weather: Initial Heatwave to Give Way to Cooler Conditions and Showers

Much of the UK is set for a scorching start to the week, with temperatures expected to soar above 30C across England and eastern Wales. The weekend is predicted to bring further cooling, with more showers possible, particularly in northern and western regions. There is a chance of more widespread rain from an Atlantic system on Sunday or Sunday night, primarily affecting Scotland and Northern Ireland. However, current forecasts suggest this rain may miss areas that need it most.

The longer-range forecast for late August and early September remains uncertain, with differing model possibilities. The most likely scenario points to high pressure dominating, leading to warmer-than-average conditions. This could bring further hot days depending on the precise alignment of high pressure. However, there is also a chance that low pressure systems could infiltrate from the west, bringing cooler and wetter weather.
