Ukraine gives U.S. peace proposals, Zelenskyy says; warns of Russian mobilization plan

Ukraine has submitted new proposals to U.S. negotiators aimed at ending the conflict with Russia, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Tuesday. The Ukrainian leader suggested Russia plans to use its upcoming parliamentary elections in September as a pretext to declare a new mobilization.

We have conveyed our proposals to the American side. And the United States can help strengthen our defense, first and foremost with air defense, and put pressure on Russia so that its plans are different, to prepare for an end to the war rather than prolonging it.

Zelenskyy's announcement of fresh proposals for peace talks, which have largely stalled since the conflict began, comes as both Russia and Ukraine anticipate a visit from U.S. negotiators. "We have conveyed our proposals to the American side," Zelenskyy stated in his nightly video address. "And the United States can help strengthen our defense, first and foremost with air defense, and put pressure on Russia so that its plans are different, to prepare for an end to the war rather than prolonging it."

Details of the proposals were not disclosed. Ukraine has consistently called for a ceasefire after nearly four and a half years of fighting. Russia maintains it desires a settlement but insists that Ukraine must fully cede four regions Moscow claims and that the conflict's "root causes" must be resolved.

Earlier, Zelenskyy accused Russia of employing North Korean-supplied ballistic missiles in an overnight attack on Zaporizhzhia, which killed seven workers at a steel plant. Additionally, three people, including a teenager, died from Russian drones and artillery in the Dnipropetrovsk region. Ukraine asserts that Russia is increasing its ballistic missile production to exploit Kyiv's critical shortage of Patriot air defense interceptors and is preparing to recruit more troops for a new offensive along the 1,250-kilometer front line.
