Ukraine Launches Deep Strikes into Russia with Drones and Missiles; Moscow Claims 326 Drones Intercepted

Ukraine conducted a large-scale overnight assault, deploying drones and missiles to strike targets deep within Russian territory, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The Ukrainian military confirmed strikes aimed at Russian military installations and its oil industry, continuing its strategy of long-range attacks.

Russia's Defense Ministry reported intercepting 326 Ukrainian drones, a figure that, while unverified, suggests a significant and coordinated Ukrainian offensive. Russian authorities reported damage to two oil industry facilities in the Vladimir region, east of Moscow, and an oil refinery in Samara on the Volga River. In Cheboksary, also on the Volga, Russian officials stated three people were injured following a missile attack, which Zelenskyy identified as targeting an arms company with Ukrainian FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles.

Further afield, drone alerts were issued in Omsk, Siberia, home to Russia's largest oil refinery, though no attacks were confirmed there. Meanwhile, in Sevastopol on the annexed Crimean peninsula, a drone reportedly struck a historical museum. The head of the Russian-installed administration, Mikhail Raswoschajew, described it as a targeted attack on a cultural site, though such a motive would be atypical for Ukrainian strikes.

Conversely, the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv bore the brunt of Russian aerial attacks overnight, with regional authorities reporting 26 impacts and five injuries. The Ukrainian Air Force claimed to have intercepted 181 out of 207 Russian drones launched during the night. The ongoing exchange highlights the intensified aerial warfare between the two nations, with Ukraine increasingly targeting Russian industrial and military infrastructure.
