Ukraine Reports Black Sea Attack on Cargo Ship; 5 Missing, 5 Injured

A cargo ship carrying corn has been struck in the Black Sea, resulting in a significant fire and an ongoing rescue operation. The vessel, identified as flying the Guinea-Bissau flag, departed a port after loading its cargo. Ukrainian Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi reported that the ship carried an 18-member crew comprising citizens from India, Syria, and Ukraine.

The ship departed the port after taking its corn cargo, and there were 18 crew members on board, including citizens of India, Syria, and Ukraine.

The attack, which Ukrainian authorities attribute to Russia, caused a major fire onboard. Ukrainian Naval Forces have initiated rescue efforts, successfully saving eight sailors, two of whom sustained injuries. However, five crew members remain unaccounted for, and their status is unknown.

Prime Minister Koretskyi stated that rescue teams were quickly withdrawn from the scene due to the risk of a second attack. Despite the immediate withdrawal of rescue personnel, firefighting operations on the vessel are continuing.
