Ukraine's new army chief discusses victory vision with NATO commander

Ukraine's newly appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mykhailo Drapatyi, has initiated contact with NATO leadership, holding his first phone conversation with General Alexus Grynkewich, the Supreme Allied Commander Europe. The announcement came on Wednesday, July 29, from the General Staff of the Ukrainian army, following Drapatyi's official assumption of command on July 22.

During the call, Drapatyi presented his strategic vision for achieving victory in Ukraine. He stressed the importance of intensifying operations across multiple sectors, bolstering defenses against enemy infiltration, and expanding the range of Ukrainian strikes. The commander also indicated plans to increase losses inflicted upon enemy forces and further degrade Russia's economic capabilities through asymmetric approaches and domestically developed technologies.

The conversation between the two generals also addressed the ongoing structural reforms within the Ukrainian military, focusing on the development and increased autonomy of army corps. He also extended thanks to President Trump, Secretary of Defense Hegseth, and the United States for their military support, particularly within the framework of the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List.

Recent reports had circulated about a message attributed to Drapatyi suggesting an internal army audit, but the General Staff later denied this, clarifying that the new commander would communicate exclusively through official channels. Drapatyi himself posted on Facebook that his personal page would now be strictly for personal use, distancing it from official military communications.
