Ukraine's prime minister resigns; Zelenskyy shifts several government roles

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko resigned Sunday, signaling a significant shift in the nation's political strategy as announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Svyrydenko, who also served as Ukraine's economy minister, will move to a new, key international relations role, according to Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy described the impending reshuffle as an effort to assign specific individuals with substantial experience to critical foreign policy areas. "Each priority area of foreign policy will be assigned to a specific person with substantial experience who is capable of implementing what we agree on at the leaders' level and what the Ukrainian people expect," he stated.

Svyrydenko, 39, had been prime minister since July 2025, playing a key role in securing a mineral agreement with the United States. She expressed pride in leading the government during a difficult period and affirmed her readiness to continue serving Ukraine. "I remain ready to serve the Ukrainian state and carry out every task aimed at strengthening Ukraine's position, defending our national interests and bringing a just peace closer," she said.

The reshuffle extends beyond the prime minister's office, with Zelenskyy also planning changes among top law enforcement officials. This marks the fourth major government reorganization since Russia's full-scale invasion, reflecting Zelenskyy's ongoing efforts to energize his administration under martial law.
