Ukraine talks resume: What Putin discussed with Trump's envoys

The Kremlin described Vladimir Putin's meeting with Donald Trump's envoys as "substantive, exceptionally frank and trusting," as Moscow and Washington resumed talks on the conflict in Ukraine after a months-long pause.

Putin met U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, in discussions that lasted three hours and 10 minutes. Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said the conversation took place both in a working format and over an informal lunch.

Ushakov said the Russian side provided what he called clear and comprehensive assessments of the situation in the combat zone and highlighted the successes of the Russian army. The meeting also reflected confidence that its stated goals could be achieved, while emphasizing the need to eliminate what Moscow describes as the conflict's underlying causes.

The discussions also covered economic issues and possible large-scale joint projects between Russia and the United States. Putin and Trump will continue their personal contacts, while work involving Witkoff and Kushner will also continue.
