Ukraine War: Heavy Russian Bomb Attack on Kramatorsk

The security situation in Kramatorsk, eastern Ukraine, continues to deteriorate following a significant Russian bombing attack that injured at least 15 people and killed one, according to regional authorities. The attack, which reportedly involved eight aerial strikes, possibly with glide bombs, hit the front-line city and caused a fire in a large residential block.

Wadym Filaschkin, the military administrator of the Donetsk region, announced the casualties on Telegram and urged Kramatorsk residents to move to less dangerous areas. The escalating threat has prompted the forced evacuation of 525 children and adolescents from the city and its surroundings. Filaschkin stated earlier in August that the worsening security situation made it unacceptable to expose children to the constant danger of Russian attacks, calling the evacuation a difficult but necessary decision.

Ukraine has been defending against a large-scale Russian invasion for nearly four and a half years. The Sloviansk and Kramatorsk agglomeration represents the last major defensive stronghold held by Ukrainian forces in the Donetsk region. Russia has demanded the complete withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donetsk region as a precondition for peace negotiations.
