Ukrainian drone attacks kill eight in response to Russian missiles

Ukraine launched a wave of drone attacks across multiple Russian regions overnight, resulting in at least eight civilian deaths. The strikes targeted oil facilities and residential areas, extending deep into Russian territory far from the front lines.

Regional governors reported casualties, including three people killed in a drone strike on a car in the Udmurtia region, over 1,300 kilometers from Ukraine. In the Saratov region, civilian infrastructure was hit, with two people killed in Engels when a residential building was struck. Both Saratov, home to a major oil refinery, and Engels, which hosts a strategic bomber airbase, have been repeatedly targeted.

Ukraine's military confirmed attacks on the Saratov refinery and Engels airbase, reporting fires at both locations. Strikes also hit an oil depot in the Kaluga region and a Wildberries warehouse in the Samara region. These attacks are part of Ukraine's strategy to disrupt Russia's war-waging capabilities by targeting economic and energy assets.

Meanwhile, Russia's intensified missile campaign against Ukraine continues. In July, Russia fired a record 376 missiles, more than double the previous month's total, with most aimed at Kyiv, killing over 170 civilians. In Ukraine, a Russian guided bomb struck a residential building in Zaporizhzhia, killing one person, and another attack near Kharkiv also resulted in a fatality.
