UN Ambassador hails Ogun governor for 'talking to the future' with infrastructure projects

Nigerian Ambassador to the United Nations, Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, has lauded Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun for his administration's focus on strategic infrastructure development, particularly the Gateway International Airport. Ambassador Ibrahim described the airport as a significant investment that showcases the governor's foresight and political will to execute projects with lasting economic value.

During a visit to the airport, Ibrahim commended the aesthetics, quality, and overall development, calling it one of Nigeria's best facilities of its kind. He also praised Abiodun for completing major projects initiated since 2019, noting that successfully navigating the complexities of large-scale infrastructure is a crucial test of leadership. The ambassador believes Abiodun understands that sustainable development requires investments that transcend immediate political cycles.

"What he has done is simple: he talks to the future. All his projects, the one I always thank him for is that of Epe to Ijebu-Ode. I can’t believe how that was done. This project is talking to the future of Ogun State. He is a Governor that is littered with mega projects," Ibrahim stated.

He contrasted Ogun State's experience with the widespread issue of abandoned projects across Nigeria, which he noted have imposed significant economic costs. Ibrahim cited the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, which remains largely undeveloped after 42 years, as a prime example of unrealized industrial potential. He emphasized that the completion and utilization of projects like the Gateway International Airport demonstrate the importance of continuity, effective management, and long-term economic planning for strengthening competitiveness and attracting investment.
