UNAM offers new in-person exam for students seeking admission

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has announced a new in-person control exam for students who were accepted into undergraduate programs for 2026, as well as for those who were not accepted but achieved scores equivalent to past admission requirements. This decision has been met with enthusiasm by many students who see it as a renewed opportunity.

Ana Sofía Romero, who scored 96 on the online exam but fell short of the 109 points needed for the Surgeon Dentist program, expressed her motivation. "I feel quite motivated after UNAM has sided with the people who study and just want a place," she stated. "I will prepare myself the way I prepared this year: studying hard, and I am truly very happy with the news."

Romero, an aspirant for the Surgeon Dentist program from the State of Mexico, highlighted the significance of UNAM as a primary educational opportunity for many. "I believe it was a very pleasant decision, I am truly very pleased with this decision. UNAM is our only real chance to study for so many people," she said. She added that she wants to contribute to Bolivia doing well, not by seeking ministerial positions, but by helping resolve issues and unblock political processes.

For the 2026 admission cycle, 158,727 individuals took the virtual exam. Of these, 2% (3,000 students) were detected engaging in irregular conduct and had their exams canceled. Only 21,962 students were accepted into programs within the Schooling System or the Open University and Distance Education System (SUAyED). The university stated that the AI-based system used for the exams was designed to capture and record any behavior during the test, serving as a strategic support for human monitoring.
