UNAM rector requests federal audit of 69 million peso contract for entrance exams

Leonardo Lomelí Vargas, the rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), has formally requested the Superior Audit Federation (ASF) to scrutinize the contracting process for Territorium Life, the company responsible for administering the 2026 undergraduate entrance exams. This move aims to ensure compliance with regulations and identify any potential irregularities.

The request, submitted via an official letter on August 4, 2025, to ASF head Aureliano Hernández Palacios Cardel, seeks to "evaluate the congruence between the contract and the provision of services rendered, in order to verify the correct application of regulations in the matter, determine responsibilities, if any, and identify areas for improvement." UNAM has affirmed its full cooperation, offering all necessary information for the audit.

This development follows the university's decision to terminate its contract with Territorium Life prematurely. Administrative Secretary Tomás Humberto Rubio Pérez and General Counsel Hugo Alejandro Concha Cantú announced that 69,189,760 pesos were paid to the company in 2026 for entrance exams for both licenciatura and bachillerato programs. In addition to the ASF audit, UNAM is conducting its own "technological" audit of Territorium Life's platform and an internal review by the University Comptroller's Office regarding the contract's adjudication.
