UNAM suspends enrollment amid exam cheating allegations; regulated transfer unaffected

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has temporarily halted enrollment for the 2026-2027 academic year following accusations of cheating on its online entrance exam. However, the university issued a statement to assure students that this measure will not impact those admitted through the "pase reglamentado," or regulated transfer process.

This regulated transfer is UNAM's system for assigning its own high school graduates a place in undergraduate programs without requiring them to take a separate entrance exam. Students graduating from the National Preparatory School (ENP) or the College of Science and Humanities (CCH) are eligible.

To qualify for this transfer, students must maintain a good academic average, as the required GPA varies depending on the competitiveness of the chosen major. They must also be regular students, meaning they have no outstanding course failures. While not mandatory, having taken courses related to the desired field of study is recommended. Students can apply for two program choices, with the second choice having certain restrictions on high-demand or specialized programs.

The process involves submitting an application, taking a diagnostic English test, and providing personal details for a photograph and signature. UNAM then reviews academic records to assign a program, with results announced before enrollment begins. The university has faced scrutiny over its admission processes, with some students alleging that cheating has occurred and that undeserving candidates have been admitted.
