UNAM to welcome 459 students for mobility programs in 2027-1 semester

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) is preparing to host 459 students, both Mexican and international, for the 2027-1 semester (fall 2026) as part of its robust student mobility programs. This influx represents a significant engagement with global academic exchange, highlighting UNAM's commitment to internationalization.

Francisco Suárez Güemes, head of the General Directorate of Cooperation and Internationalization (DGECI), reported that 59 percent of these international students hail from Spanish-speaking countries. He further detailed that 96 percent will pursue coursework at various UNAM academic entities, while the remaining four percent will engage in research stays, foreign language studies, or professional experiences.

Domestically, 205 students from 36 higher education institutions in 29 Mexican states will undertake university stays at UNAM's campuses, including Ciudad Universitaria and its various faculties and national schools. This domestic mobility component underscores UNAM's role in fostering inter-institutional collaboration within Mexico.

During the welcome ceremony, Suárez Güemes emphasized that student mobility extends beyond mere coursework. It is viewed as a vital opportunity for academic, cultural, and personal integration into university life. Mónica Cejudo Collera, director of the Faculty of Architecture, added that the presence of diverse students reinforces the institution's pluralistic and open identity. Víctor Hugo Anaya Muñoz, Technical Secretary of the Secretariat of Institutional Development, affirmed that internationalization is a strategic priority for educational institutions, stating, "In that diversity lies one of the greatest riches of our University, and therefore it is growing at this moment."

205 students from 36 higher education institutions from 29 entities in the Mexican Republic will carry out a university stay during the 2027-1 semester at academic headquarters in Ciudad Universitaria, as well as in the national faculties and schools.

Among the leading countries of origin for international students are Peru (60), Colombia (41), Germany and the United States (21 each), Spain (19), and France (14). For national mobility, the states contributing the most students are Sinaloa (24), Sonora (20), Chiapas (19), Chihuahua and Baja California (15 each), and Nuevo León (12).
