“Uncover It, Uncover It!”: 470 Kilos of Cocaine Hidden Under a Tarp and Behind Fuel Cans to Misdirect

Gendarmerie officers in Tucumán, Argentina, intercepted a pickup truck carrying a substantial illicit cargo: 470 kilograms of cocaine. The discovery was made on National Route No. 157 near the town of Río Seco. The driver initially claimed he was merely traveling within the province, but his inconsistent answers to standard questions raised the suspicions of the federal security force.

Upon closer inspection, gendarmes uncovered the carefully concealed narcotics. The drugs were hidden beneath a tarp and stowed behind fuel canisters in the truck bed. This tactic is commonly employed by traffickers to disguise the odor of the substances, making detection by authorities more difficult. The operation, which occurred Thursday night, highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.

The Federal Court No. 1 of Tucumán ordered the truck to be transported to the "Aguilares" squadron for a thorough examination. Trained canine units reacted positively to the presence of illegal substances. Authorities then extracted 449 packages, each wrapped in yellow nylon, totaling 470.5 kilograms of cocaine. The driver, identified as an Argentine national with a history of migratory movements to neighboring countries, was arrested and charged under Law 23.737. The drugs, vehicle, and other relevant evidence were seized.
