Undefeated Vietnam Advances to ASEAN Hyundai Cup Semifinals

The Vietnamese national football team, under the guidance of coach Kim Sang-sik, continues its impressive unbeaten run, now extending to 22 matches. This streak includes 19 wins and 3 draws, setting a new national record for consecutive matches without a loss.

The team recently secured their place in the semifinals of the 2026 ASEAN Hyundai Cup by defeating Cambodia 3-1 in their final group stage match. Goals from Nguyen Dinh Bac and an own goal by Cambodia sealed the victory, allowing Vietnam to finish atop Group A with 10 points, ahead of Singapore.

Vietnam, the reigning champions from the 2024 tournament, are aiming for their second consecutive title and fourth overall. Their semifinal opponent will be Malaysia, who advanced by defeating the Philippines 1-0, finishing second in Group B behind Thailand.

The semifinals and finals of the Hyundai Cup, a tournament often referred to as the "Southeast Asian World Cup," will be played on a home-and-away basis. Vietnam is scheduled to play the first leg away on December 16, followed by the second leg at home on December 19. The winner will advance to face the victor of the match between Thailand and Singapore in the final.
