Underpass near Vjesnik to close for skyscraper demolition; traffic rerouted

Zagreb is set to close the underpass at Slavonska Avenue near Vjesnik for four days, starting Thursday, June 4, at 6 a.m. until Sunday, June 7, at 8 p.m. The closure is necessary for crucial demolition work on the northern side of the adjacent skyscraper.

There will be four days of complete closure of Slavonska. Traffic will be managed in a different way.

Minister of Construction Branko Bačić emphasized that this time, unlike previous closures, there will be no bypass for drivers. Traffic heading east-west will use the upper level of Slavonska Avenue, while traffic west-east will be rerouted via Savska cesta, Prisavlje, Marohnićeva, and back to Slavonska Avenue. For those traveling from Savska cesta towards Vukovar, the route will be via Ulica grada Vukovara, Hrvatske bratske zajednice, and then Slavonska avenija.

Public transportation will also be affected. Bus line 107 will run on a partially modified route towards Žitnjak, using the Vjesnik tram stop in the southern direction. After the work is completed, the bus line will resume its normal route through the underpass. The demolition of the skyscraper is scheduled to be completed by mid-July.

The upcoming works are sensitive and can endanger the safety of everyone who would be moving through the underpass at that time, which is why its temporary closure is necessary.

Mayor Tomislav Tomašević confirmed the closure, stating that the upcoming works are sensitive and could endanger anyone passing through the underpass. He assured that the four-day period was deemed necessary for the safe execution of the demolition. A protective curtain will be installed during the removal of the northern facade to prevent falling debris.
