Unfortunate Missed Chance for ‘La Hormiga’ González in Olympiacos Debut

Armando González came within inches of marking his Olympiacos debut with a goal, but the Mexican striker’s late chance struck the crossbar in a 1-0 win over Asteras Tripolis.

González entered the Greek Super League match with just over 20 minutes to play, eight days after Olympiacos completed his signing. His team had taken the lead through Jota Silva in the 31st minute.

Near the end of the match, a diagonal pass from the left side of the penalty area found González after a well-timed run. He struck first time with his left foot, but the ball hit the crossbar. González tried to head in the rebound, though the effort lacked pace and the defense cleared it.

The missed opportunity extended a scoring drought that began with Chivas at the start of the Apertura 2026. His move to Greece offered a chance to end that run, but his first appearance for Olympiacos ended without a goal.
