UniCal reaffirms ban on wild post-exam celebrations, warns defaulters

The University of Calabar (UniCal) has firmly restated its prohibition on wild post-examination celebrations, emphasizing that such activities disrupt campus peace and safety. The institution's Registrar, Chukwuka Icha, conveyed the management's directive, expressing concern over students, particularly final-year students, engaging in unlawful celebrations after their examinations.

According to Icha, these celebrations frequently involve reckless driving, public displays of affiliation with groups, and other forms of disorderly conduct. She urged all students to cease such activities and adhere to the university's established regulations. The ban specifically targets wild celebrations within the campus, near its gates, and all cult-related activities, which remain strictly enforced.

The acting chief security officer has been instructed to ensure rigorous enforcement of the ban across the campus and its surrounding areas. The university's stance comes after a serious crash occurred on school premises in 2024, involving final-year students who were celebrating wildly after their last paper. This incident underscores the potential dangers associated with uncontrolled post-examination revelry and the university's commitment to preventing future occurrences.
