Unimicron investigation prompts credit agency warning over customer relationships

Taiwan Ratings said an investigation into Unimicron is unlikely to disrupt the company’s operations or finances in the short term. The credit agency issued its assessment after Unimicron confirmed that it was cooperating with investigators.

The case concerns whether Unimicron’s printed circuit board products violated origin-labeling rules. Taiwan Ratings said the company’s current ratings are twA+/positive/twA-1 and that the investigation does not immediately threaten its core IC substrate business.

As of June 30, 2026, Unimicron held a strong net cash position that Taiwan Ratings said should be enough to absorb any potential financial impact from the case. Demand linked to the artificial intelligence market has also supported strong shipments of the company’s high-end ABF substrates, which the agency expects to continue driving rapid EBITDA growth.

The main risk could emerge through customers rather than immediate financial damage. Taiwan Ratings warned that the investigation may lead customers to reassess Unimicron’s supply-chain compliance and risk management. With technological competition between the United States and China intensifying, the agency said the possibility was low but that the case still warranted attention because it could affect long-term relationships with major U.S. customers if the situation worsens.
