Unión La Calera thrashes Santiago Wanderers to regain ground in Copa Chile group

Unión La Calera secured a commanding 4-0 home victory over Santiago Wanderers in the Copa Chile, significantly improving their chances of advancing to the knockout stage from Group D. The win at the Estadio Nicolás Chahuán Nazar saw the "cementeros" capitalize on the inexperience of the young Wanderers squad.

Bayron Oyarzo opened the scoring early, just before the first minute, by exploiting a defensive error. The score remained 1-0 until halftime. In the second half, Francisco Pozzo extended La Calera's lead in the 48th minute after another mistake by the Wanderers defense, which included players from the Copa Libertadores U20 championship team.

Oyarzo completed his brace in the 51st minute, effectively sealing the match for La Calera. Martín Hiriart added a final goal in the 89th minute, rounding off the comprehensive victory.

With this result, Unión La Calera temporarily moves to 4 points in Group D, level with Universidad de Chile, and remains in contention for a spot in the next phase of the Copa Chile. Santiago Wanderers, meanwhile, faces a more difficult path to qualification.
