UNIOSUN VC warns students against cultism, cybercrime

New students at Osun State University have been firmly cautioned against engaging in cultism, cybercrime, and other forms of misconduct, as the institution enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy. Vice Chancellor Professor Clement Adebooye stressed that violations of university regulations will be met with stringent sanctions.

Permit me to emphasise that Osun State University maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of misconduct and anti-social behaviour. Cultism, examination malpractice, cybercrime, drug abuse, sexual harassment, violence, hooliganism, certificate fraud and every other act capable of undermining the integrity of this University have no place in our academic community.

During the matriculation ceremony for 493 new students admitted to part-time degree programs, Adebooye implored the students to uphold the core values of honesty, discipline, responsibility, and respect for constituted authority. He explicitly stated that cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, sexual harassment, violence, and certificate fraud have no place within the academic community.

Adebooye encouraged the matriculating students to view their admission as a starting point, urging them to embrace discipline, commitment, hard work, and determination. He advised regular lecture attendance, active participation in academic activities, diligent assignment completion, and the cultivation of healthy relationships with both faculty and peers. The university also highlighted the importance of effectively utilizing its provided digital resources and support systems.

Our regulations are clear, and sanctions for violations are strictly enforced. I therefore urge you to uphold the values of honesty, discipline, responsibility and respect for constituted authority throughout your stay in the University.

The Vice Chancellor further emphasized the need for continuous learning, critical thinking, and intellectual curiosity, stating that the acquired knowledge, skills, and values will shape their future and societal impact. He assured that the university is committed to maintaining its high academic standards and remains a leading institution nationally and internationally. Adebooye also called on postgraduate students to focus their research on addressing challenges facing Nigerian society.
