"United action of police and Informer" against Milić in Niš: Secret SNS press conferences

Dragan Milić, an opposition politician in Niš, Serbia, alleges a coordinated effort between the police and the Informer newspaper to fabricate charges against him. Milić claims that reports of his arrest and the seizure of illegal weapons were false, describing the events as a "joint action" by the police and the tabloid.

They have, literally, ambushed me to hand me a resolution, not at my home, not where I work, but in the middle of the street, so that their accomplices with the police could take pictures, because they knew that would happen. As if, a large quantity of illegal weapons was found during a search at Milić's. That is not true.

According to Milić, he was intercepted on his way to work and served with a notice regarding illegal weapons. He asserts that while he inherited five firearms from his father and uncle and possesses permits for them, he was informed that a required medical certificate had expired. Milić questions why such certificates are not subject to shorter renewal periods for figures like the president.

Milan Zirojević, editor of "Južne vesti," identified the events as part of an "ultimate campaign" orchestrated by the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). Zirojević noted the timing of two SNS statements, a press conference, and the "weapon affair" reported by Informer, all occurring on the same day. He also pointed out the presence of Informer's editor alongside the president in a recent televised cafe appearance.

They see Serbia as their personal property and that is why they behave so shamefully.

Milić suggests that the ruling party views Serbia as their personal property, leading to such "shameful" behavior. Zirojević interprets the current situation in Niš as indicative of an ongoing campaign, even though elections are not yet on the horizon. The ruling party is reportedly conducting surveys to gauge the popularity of local politicians, including Milić and the current mayor, Dragoslav Pavlović.
