Universidad Católica coach dismisses need for new goalkeeper

Universidad Católica's head coach, Daniel Garnero, has clarified the team's transfer priorities, explicitly stating that acquiring a new goalkeeper is not on the agenda. Garnero emphasized that the team's needs lie in other positions, dismissing rumors of a search for a new shot-stopper for the upcoming season.

"I did not ask for a goalkeeper. We have needs in other positions," Garnero stated clearly when questioned about potential reinforcements. He acknowledged that the process of bringing in new players has been challenging, citing difficulties with finances and player willingness to join the club. "It's complicated, not easy," he admitted, noting the lack of significant progress in negotiations.

Looking ahead to the weekend's match against San Luis de Quillota, Garnero confirmed that despite already qualifying for the next round of the Copa Chile, the team will field its strongest possible lineup. He highlighted the intensity of previous matches against San Luis, noting their ability to disrupt Universidad Católica's play. The coach expressed concern over the physical and mental toll on his players due to the demanding schedule and lack of a proper mid-year break.

"Rest is important. For an athlete to be at their best, they need to rest well and eat well," Garnero explained. He lamented the absence of a significant break, stating that the team could have benefited from a short recess to recharge and prepare for upcoming challenges. However, with the demanding schedule, they will only have a four-day pause.
