Universidad Católica signs Argentine defender Agustín García Basso

Universidad Católica has secured Argentine defender Agustín García Basso as their new reinforcement, just hours before the winter transfer window closes. The 34-year-old brings a wealth of experience, having developed at Boca Juniors and playing extensively in Argentina's second division. His career includes stints with clubs like Santamarina de Tandil, Douglas Haig, Agropecuario, Estudiantes de Caseros, Sportivo Belgrano, and Quilmes.

García Basso also had a spell in Ecuador with Deportivo Cuenca and Independiente del Valle. His most recent club was Racing de Avellaneda, where he achieved significant success, winning the Copa Sudamericana in 2024 and the Recopa Sudamericana in 2025. This move marks his first experience playing in Chilean football.

As of now, García Basso is the sole reinforcement for Universidad Católica for the upcoming second half of the season. The team's next challenge is a Copa Libertadores match against Estudiantes de La Plata on Tuesday, August 19, at 8:30 PM. The game, a rematch of the round of 16, will be held at the Claro Arena.
