University of Niš Announces Student Admissions; New Faculty Excluded

The University of Niš has officially opened its admission competition for the upcoming academic year, making 4,446 places available across its 14 faculties. Prospective students can apply for these positions until July 16.

A significant point of this year's competition is the exclusion of the recently established Faculty of Serbian Studies from the enrollment process. Instead, programs focusing on Serbian language, history, and Russian language and literature will continue to be offered through the Faculty of Philosophy, as in previous years.

Unlike in prior years, where the admission numbers were contingent on a government decision, this year's figures were determined by the University Senate's assessment. The government had not yet issued its decision on the number of budget-funded student slots by the time the competition was announced on June 19. The competition notice includes a provision stating that if the government's final decision on budget-funded students differs from the Senate's number, the faculties will adhere to the government's decision.

The Electronic Faculty will admit the largest number of students, with 540 funded by the state budget and an additional 60 self-financing positions. The Faculty of Philosophy plans to enroll 370 students on the budget and 270 self-financing students across its departments. Specifically, the history department will accept 50 students (30 budget, 20 self-financing), the Serbian studies department will also take 50 students (30 budget, 20 self-financing), and the Russian language and literature department will enroll 20 students (12 budget, 8 self-financing).

Other faculties, including the Pedagogical Faculty in Vranje, the Faculty of Agriculture in Kruševac, and the Faculty of Arts in Niš, will admit fewer students. The Pedagogical Faculty plans to enroll 90 state-funded and 120 self-financing students. The Faculty of Agriculture will take 75 budget and 30 self-financing students. The Faculty of Arts has the smallest intake, with 39 budget and 27 self-financing places across all its programs. Entrance exams at the University of Niš faculties are scheduled from June 24 to July 3, with a second admission round planned from September 1 to September 18.
