UNIZIK suspends lecturer for three months over alleged sexual misconduct

Nnamdi Azikiwe University has suspended Professor Ifeanyi Odinye, a lecturer in its Chinese Studies department, for three months, placing him on half salary. The decision follows preliminary findings from a special investigative panel addressing allegations of sexual misconduct and violations of university regulations.

The university's management, in a statement signed by Director of Information and Public Relations Aloysius Attah, deferred consideration of a sexual harassment claim against Odinye, citing the need for further investigation. The panel's interim report was submitted to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie.

The allegations gained public attention after a viral video showed students assaulting Odinye on campus. This occurred after he was allegedly caught molesting a female student. The university condemned the violence and "jungle justice," calling for a thorough investigation into the incident.

Chikamso Okechukwu, the student involved in the physical altercation with the professor, has been referred to the student's examination misconduct committee. The university has extended the investigative panel's duration for further inquiry.
