UNTREF and Arthaus launch 'Tercer Espacio' for contemporary art

The National University of Tres de Febrero (UNTREF) and Arthaus have jointly launched "Tercer Espacio" (Third Space), an innovative platform designed to foster contemporary art production and experimentation. This initiative goes beyond a traditional workspace, aiming to create a dynamic environment for artists to produce, exchange ideas, and receive critical support through integrated workshops, residencies, and project clinics.

The platform, located in a 700-square-meter facility at Avenida Vélez Sarsfield 670 in Barracas, Buenos Aires, is a public-private collaboration. Arthaus provides the physical space, while UNTREF contributes its academic, professional, and technical infrastructure. The project seeks to position the university not just as an educational institution but as a hub for artistic creation, research, and experimentation.

A call for artists is now open until August 31, targeting artists of all career stages. The program will select between 18 and 20 artists who will have the opportunity to develop their projects over a week. Four scholarships are available as part of the initiative.

This sentiment underscores the platform's core philosophy: encouraging artists to explore interdisciplinary boundaries. Whether a photographer venturing into generative imagery, a sculptor incorporating programming, or a painter embracing new technologies, Tercer Espacio aims to support these creative displacements by connecting artists with specialists across various fields, including physics, engineering, and design.
