US Approves New Oil Shipments for Serbia via JANAF

The United States' Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has once again demonstrated its commitment to regional energy stability by extending the license for Jadranski Naftovod (JANAF) to transport crude oil to Serbia's NIS. This decision, allowing operations until mid-June, underscores Croatia's strategic importance as an energy hub in Southeast Europe. JANAF, operating responsibly and in line with international regulations, views this as a validation of its role in meeting the energy needs of Croatia and the wider region.

This development is particularly significant given the ongoing complexities surrounding NIS's ownership. The U.S. has also granted an extension for negotiations between MOL and Gazprom Neft concerning the sale of Russian majority stakes in NIS, a company previously sanctioned by OFAC due to its Russian ownership. The situation highlights the intricate geopolitical dynamics at play, where energy security intersects with international sanctions and corporate restructuring.

Serbian media reports indicate that NIS had proactively sought this new license to ensure operational continuity.
