US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll Resigns After Months of Tension With Hegseth

Dan Driscoll has submitted his resignation as US Army secretary after months of friction with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, according to a source familiar with the matter. The White House had not made clear whether it accepted the resignation.

Driscoll, who is considered close to Vice President JD Vance, is the latest senior official to leave or be pushed out of Hegseth’s Pentagon. In April, Hegseth fired Army Chief of Staff Randy George, another major personnel change while the US military was fighting a major war in the Middle East.

Driscoll took the Army’s top civilian post in February 2025.
