US Congresswoman Salazar condemns flag burning at Caracas protest

U.S. Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar strongly condemned the burning of American and Israeli flags during a Chavista demonstration in Caracas. Salazar asserted that Chavistas are fundamentally opposed to the United States and democratic nations, characterizing their nature as destructive to democratic institutions, purveyors of hatred, and seekers of dictatorial power.

"Chavistas have never been and will never be allies of the United States or any nation in the free world," Salazar stated on her X account. She elaborated that their actions in the Venezuelan capital demonstrate a consistent disregard for the fundamental freedoms that underpin democratic societies. "They fear freedom of expression, persecute religious freedom, and despise individual rights that protect citizens from state abuse," she added.

The congresswoman linked the desecration of national symbols to a definitive break with Western values. "Those who burn the flags of the United States and Israel make it clear which side they are on. They are not allies of those of us who defend democracy and freedom," Salazar concluded.

During the officialist demonstration, participants also trampled on images of former U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Chants of "Gringos, go home" and "This is not aid, it is an occupation," were heard, referencing U.S. aid provided after the June 24 earthquake.
