US Customs to Email Travelers Nearing End of Authorized Stay

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is implementing a system to notify certain travelers via email when their authorized stay in the United States is nearing its end. These notifications aim to help travelers manage their departure dates and avoid potential overstays.

The agency can send two types of emails related to the expiration of the I-94 form, which documents a traveler's admission and departure record. Recipients can check their immigration status and remaining stay through the official I-94 Form portal or the CBP Link mobile application. The "View Compliance" tab on the portal displays the remaining time and any potential violations.

However, CBP emphasizes that travelers remain responsible for tracking their own departure deadlines, even if they do not receive an alert. The information provided by these tools is for guidance only and does not constitute a definitive legal determination. Changes or extensions processed through U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) may not be immediately reflected in CBP's system.

Official compliance notifications originate from StayCompliance@cbp.dhs.gov. Travelers are warned to be vigilant against phishing attempts and to verify the sender's address before opening links or sharing information. The implementation of these email alerts does not alter immigration regulations or CBP's enforcement measures; it merely changes how information about available time or potential overstays is communicated.
