US Designates Palestine Action as Terrorist Group, Citing 'Far-Left Terror' Crackdown

The United States has designated Palestine Action, a UK-based activist group, as a terrorist organization. This action is part of the Trump administration's broader counterterrorism strategy, which seeks to crack down on left-wing groups. The move was announced Wednesday, following a recent push by Secretary of State Marco Rubio to refocus international counterterrorism efforts on what he termed "far-left terror."

Rubio's initiative, outlined at a conference with officials from over 60 countries, has drawn criticism from Democrats who fear the administration is politicizing counterterrorism efforts and potentially diverting resources from other significant threats. President Trump had previously singled out the antifa movement during his 2024 campaign, vowing action against left-wing groups he accused of fomenting violence.

In addition to designating Palestine Action, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on an Italy-based entity accused of providing digital infrastructure and services to antifa and other far-left organizations. Britain had previously banned Palestine Action, which has targeted Israel-linked defense companies, notably Elbit Systems. Huda Ammori, a co-founder of Palestine Action, condemned the US decision, stating that the group's work aims to disrupt the "Israeli war machine" and that the ban reflects "Britain’s repression of the movement for Palestinian freedom."
