US Envoy Discusses Bilateral Ties, Trade with Bangladesh Prime Minister

U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, Sergio Gor, held a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday morning at the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon, Dhaka. The meeting, which commenced at 9:30 a.m., involved an exchange of views on a range of issues pertinent to Bangladesh-U.S. relations.

Key topics discussed included strengthening bilateral ties, opportunities for expanding trade and investment, and fostering regional cooperation. Both sides also explored other areas of mutual interest. Among those present from the Bangladeshi side were Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, State Minister Shama Obaed, and Prime Minister's advisers Humaiun Kobir, Rehan Asif Asad, and Mahadi Amin.

U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen also participated in the meeting. Special Envoy Gor arrived in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon for a three-day visit. His itinerary includes engagements with other high-ranking Bangladeshi officials, including a meeting with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman on Thursday evening. He also visited the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox's Bazar on Friday.
