US Influencer Shot Dead Days After TikTok Post Accusing Estranged Husband of Pedophilia

A viral TikTok post accusing her estranged husband of pedophilia preceded the fatal shooting of US social media influencer Sara Gilson, 43, at her Oklahoma home. Authorities are investigating the incident as a murder-suicide, with the estranged husband, Jeremiah "Shawn" Duffey, believed to have died by suicide.

Gilson had obtained an emergency protective order against Duffey in June after police informed her of allegations that he had molested a minor. Weeks later, on July 11, she shared a TikTok video referencing a Netflix documentary trend, stating she had "just found out" her soon-to-be ex-husband was a pedophile.

Police responded late Thursday night to a 911 call reporting screams followed by a gunshot. Dispatchers could not re-establish contact with the caller. Gilson's stepson then ran to a neighbor's home to call 911, telling authorities his stepfather had shot his mother. Upon arrival, officers found both Gilson and Duffey deceased with apparent gunshot wounds to the head.

The allegations against Duffey involve a June 9 incident where he allegedly engaged in inappropriate contact with a 15-year-old girl on a basketball team he coached. Another coach intervened and reported the incident. Investigators indicated similar alleged conduct may have occurred over an extended period across multiple states. The case was referred to the U.S. Attorney's Office for potential federal prosecution due to the alleged offense occurring on tribal land and Duffey's membership in the Osage Nation.

Court records show Gilson sought another emergency protective order in July, alleging Duffey possessed a gun, threatened suicide, and had gone into hiding. He had been ordered to stay 100 yards away from her and leave their home. Gilson's son, who was in the home during the incident, was placed in protective custody and later released to a parent not involved. Gilson is survived by her son and daughter, whom an online fundraiser described as the "center of her world."
