US Judge Eleanor Ross Admits Affair After Misconduct Allegations

U.S. federal judge Eleanor Ross, appointed in 2014, faces serious allegations of sexual misconduct within her own office. The investigation centers on claims that Ross engaged in sexual activity with a police officer while at work.

The situation came to light when a court clerk reported Ross for alleged sexual encounters and workplace bullying. According to reports, three clerks claimed to have heard "lewd sounds" emanating from the judge's office. Further investigation, prompted by a special committee, included reviewing surveillance footage and access logs, which confirmed a police officer repeatedly entered Ross's office during lunch breaks.

Initially, Judge Ross vehemently denied the accusations, suggesting the clerk might have fabricated the claims due to job dissatisfaction. However, confronted with the evidence gathered by the special committee, including the surveillance data, Ross eventually admitted to having an extramarital affair with the officer.

While the special committee did not find sufficient evidence to substantiate the workplace bullying claims, Ross faced consequences for her admitted misconduct. She received a private reprimand and agreed not to run for regional chief judge. Additionally, she was required to write apology letters to six clerks. Despite these measures, two members of Congress from Georgia have filed an impeachment resolution against Ross, which will be considered by the House Judiciary Committee.
