US launches fresh strikes on Iran; Tehran retaliates against Gulf allies

The United States conducted a new wave of strikes on Iran Thursday, targeting bridges and transport infrastructure in an effort to "further degrade Iranian military capabilities." This marks the sixth consecutive night of attacks by American forces, escalating tensions over the vital Strait of Hormuz.

In response, Iran launched attacks on US allies in the Gulf. Kuwait reported its air defenses were combating missile and drone attacks, while Bahrain sounded air raid sirens. Earlier, Iran's Revolutionary Guards announced they had struck a US airbase in Jordan with ballistic missiles, citing an alleged American attack near a children's cancer hospital in Ahvaz, Iran.

Iranian state media reported strikes on two bridges, a railway station, and an airport in Hormozgan province, near the Strait of Hormuz, killing three people. The city of Bushehr, home to Iran's only civilian nuclear plant, also experienced explosions. These actions follow Iran's earlier warning to target regional infrastructure if the US attacked Iranian power plants and bridges.

A senior Iranian military spokesman asserted, "we will never back down over the Strait of Hormuz," indicating Iran's resolve to control the strategic waterway. The Strait had briefly reopened in June following a preliminary peace deal but Iran announced last week it would close again until US "aggression" ends. The US has also reimposed its blockade on Iranian ports.
