US medical groups urge people to get flu and Covid shots in counter to Trump guidance

Leading U.S. medical groups are joining forces to tell people to get their flu and COVID-19 shots this fall, seeking to cut through changing advice from the Trump administration.

The groups issued joint vaccination guidance on Wednesday and said they wanted to highlight the scientific basis for the recommendations. Their intervention comes as public advice on immunization has shifted, creating uncertainty over which vaccines people should receive.

Flu vaccinations are beginning, while updated coronavirus vaccines are starting to arrive after the Food and Drug Administration approved the latest versions last week. The guidance comes as health providers prepare for the fall and winter vaccination season.

The groups also drew attention to respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, another vaccine-preventable risk associated with the winter months. Their message covers the three illnesses as medical organizations attempt to provide a consistent account of recommended protection.
