US military casualties in Iran war rise to 774, Pentagon says

The human cost of the conflict with Iran continues to mount for the U.S. military, with total casualties now standing at 774. The latest figures from the Pentagon's Defense Casualty Analysis System reveal 18 deaths and 756 injuries among service members.

The Pentagon has divided casualty reporting into two distinct phases, reflecting shifts in U.S. military operations and the conflict's progression. Operation Epic Fury, the initial phase, accounts for 14 deaths and 417 wounded personnel. Of the fatalities in this period, seven were directly linked to combat, while the other seven were attributed to accidents or undetermined causes.

The second category, labeled Overseas Operations, covers the period from July 7 onward. This phase began after a key memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran collapsed and shortly before President Donald Trump declared a ceasefire "over." This period has resulted in four hostile deaths and 341 wounded, with all reported fatalities occurring within the U.S. Army.

Overall, the U.S. Army has borne the brunt of the conflict's casualties, recording 11 deaths and 589 injuries across both reporting periods. These statistics underscore the ongoing toll of the war on American service members as military operations against Iran continue through various stages.
