US Missile Defense Stockpiles Depleted by Iran War as Russia Boosts Intelligence On Attacks: Reports

The United States' advanced missile defense interceptor stockpiles have fallen sharply due to sustained operations against Iran, according to separate U.S. media reports. Simultaneously, Russia is reportedly providing Tehran with electronic intelligence to bolster its air defenses and refine its attack capabilities.

Estimates suggest U.S. Patriot interceptor stockpiles have dropped from approximately 2,300 before the conflict to fewer than 827. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptor inventories have also declined significantly, from 452 to under 278. This depletion has raised concerns among Pentagon officials and defense analysts regarding the U.S. military's capacity to manage prolonged engagements while remaining prepared for other potential conflicts.

To address these critical shortages, the Pentagon has requested billions in emergency funding to replenish vital weapons inventories. This includes crucial items like Patriot and THAAD interceptors, as well as Tomahawk cruise missiles.

In parallel, reports indicate Russia is supplying Iran with electronic intelligence, including satellite surveillance and signals intelligence. This information reportedly helps Iran better detect U.S. military movements during aerial operations and could potentially disrupt the effectiveness of U.S.-made weapon systems. Russian satellite data and signals intelligence are also said to be assisting Iran in improving the precision of its drone and missile attacks, while simultaneously enhancing the protection of key military assets during the ongoing conflict.

Neither the Pentagon nor Russian and Iranian authorities have publicly commented on these reports. The U.S. and European officials familiar with the intelligence shared this information with NBC News, adding that Moscow has also previously shared intelligence on the locations of U.S. forces in the Middle East.
