US Open: French players Loïs Boisson and Elsa Jacquemot eliminated in first round

Loïs Boisson’s US Open campaign ended after a 2-hour, 46-minute battle with American Emma Navarro, while Elsa Jacquemot suffered a more straightforward defeat against Marie Bouzkova.

Boisson, ranked 237th in the world, lost 7-6 (8/6), 6-7 (1/7), 6-3 to Navarro, the 27th-ranked player and a 2024 US Open semifinalist. Their match began on Sunday but stopped because of rain with Navarro leading 4-2 and 15-30 on Boisson’s serve in the second set.

When play resumed Monday, the 23-year-old from Dijon recovered the break and forced a second-set tiebreak, which she won comfortably. She then took an early break in the deciding set, but Navarro quickly leveled. Boisson had a chance to break again at 3-3, before Navarro broke for a 5-3 lead and served out the match.

Jacquemot, ranked 114th, lost 6-2, 6-2 to Bouzkova, the tournament’s 25th seed, in less than 90 minutes. Jacquemot had reached the second round at the previous US Open.

France’s remaining women’s players are Diane Parry and Léolia Jeanjean. Parry, the French No. 1 ranked 31st, entered the tournament after winning the first title of her career at the WTA 500 event in Monterrey on Saturday. Jeanjean, ranked 127th, was due to begin against Dutch player Arantxa Rus on Tuesday.
