US Open: Ogunsakin Fights Back for First Grand Slam Main-Draw Win

Oluwaseun Ogunsakin fought back from a set down to claim his first main-draw victory at a Grand Slam junior tournament, defeating 15th seed Kuan-Shou Chen of Chinese Taipei at the US Open Junior Championships.

The 17-year-old Nigerian, who trains at Aurum Tennis Academy, lost the opening set 5-7 before winning the next two 6-3, 7-5. The result sent him into the second round and marked another step in a rapid rise on the international junior circuit.

Ogunsakin had already produced a strong qualifying run in New York. He beat Poland's Tymon Litwic 6-3, 6-0, then upset top seed Felix Roussel of Canada 6-3, 6-4 to earn a place in the 64-player main draw.

The US Open is Ogunsakin's third consecutive junior Grand Slam tournament. He reached the second qualifying round at Roland Garros, made the Wimbledon main draw and reached the Wimbledon boys' doubles semi-finals. He will meet South Africa's Connor Doig in the next round in New York, and is also scheduled to play doubles with Botswana's Ntungamili Raguin.
