US Open: Zheng Rallies from 5-0 Down to Stun Swiatek

Zheng Qinwen has made a habit of escaping from 5-0 down. For the second match in succession, the Chinese player overturned that deficit, this time against former champion Iga Swiatek, to reach the US Open quarter-finals.

The eighth-seeded Swiatek took control early on Arthur Ashe Stadium, but Zheng won 13 of the next 16 games. She closed out a 7-5, 6-3 victory after breaking twice in the second set, including with a powerful backhand return winner in the seventh game.

The win extended Zheng's remarkable New York run to seven consecutive victories. She came through three qualifying rounds before reaching the last eight, and will face either Naomi Osaka or Elena Rybakina next.

The 23-year-old reigning Olympic champion and former world number four fell outside the top 100 earlier this year while trying to regain form after elbow surgery in July 2025. The latest victory will take her back to the brink of the top 50.
