US sanctions Italian extremist group, cites ties to Antifa and Hamas communications

The US State Department has designated the Italy-based extremist group Autistici/Inventati, also known as the "A/I Collective," for its role in supplying digital infrastructure to various radical left-wing networks. The announcement also included bans on the transnational group Masar Badil and the UK-founded Palestine Action.

The department released a fact sheet detailing how Portland-based Rose City Antifa allegedly uses the A/I Collective's tools. The group is accused of organizing and inciting violent domestic acts, including an attack on Customs and Border Patrol helicopters that resulted in a federal indictment. The fact sheet also claims Rose City Antifa disseminates doxing lists and illegally obtained personal information of federal immigration enforcement officers.

Furthermore, the State Department indicated that a far-left extremist media group, which relies on A/I Collective tools, publishes communiqués and calls to action for US-designated foreign terrorist organizations. These include Hamas, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hezbollah, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The department noted this group was recently cited in a federal criminal complaint against a domestic terrorist sentenced for targeting federal property with explosives.

While the State Department did not publicly name the media group, The Jerusalem Post identified it as Abolition Media. This group describes itself as an "online news source for revolutionary movements" and a "tool for movements dedicated to anarchist, abolitionist, and revolutionary perspectives." The quotes attributed by the State Department to the unnamed group appear to be directly from Abolition Media's 'About' page. Abolition Media has acknowledged the sanctions on the A/I Collective, calling them "disproportionate" and denying the allegations.
