US Strikes IRGC Targets in Iran After Missile Attacks

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces have executed a significant wave of strikes against Iran, targeting numerous Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) installations. The operation was a direct response to Iran's attempted missile attacks on U.S. troops stationed in the Middle East on July 28. CENTCOM assets struck a variety of targets within Iran, including military command centers, facilities for missiles and drones, coastal surveillance and defense sites, and maritime assets. The stated aim of these strikes is to degrade Iran's and its proxies' capacity to threaten American forces, international commercial shipping, and regional Gulf allies. On July 28, IRGC forces launched multiple ballistic missiles from Iranian territory in what was described as an attempted surprise attack against U.S. forces. All incoming Iranian missiles were successfully intercepted by U.S. defenses. The statement from CENTCOM emphasized the high state of readiness among the more than 50,000 U.S. service members currently deployed in the Middle East, describing them as "highly vigilant, focused, lethal, and ready."
